Follow in the footsteps of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in New Zealand

Starting the journey with a personal pick up at the airport from the Prime Minister followed by a traditional Kiwi barbecue at her house. Colbert was inducted into the New Zealand way of life.

Some of New Zealand’s biggest personalities welcomed and hosted Colbert including Lorde, Flight of the Concords’ Bret McKenzie, Lucy Lawless, Sir Peter Jackson and some ex-All Blacks.

Visitors can follow in the footsteps of the TV show and get their own version of the induction on their way to becoming New Zealand’s ‘newest New Zealander’.
Hobbiton – Amidst the rolling hills of Matamata, in Waikato on New Zealand’s North Island, Hobbiton Movie Set brings the films to life. Join a tour of the 12-acre farm with a welcoming guide who will tell the stories of The Shire and take you along the path, past Bag End, under The Party tree to The Green Dragon Inn.

The Enormous Crocodile - Nothing beats the Wellington waterfront area on a glistening clear day – and there’s no better way to enjoy it than exploring on a Wellington Crocodile Bikes. When Stephen Colbert bumped into New Zealand’s own Lucy Lawless and Flight of the Conchord’s Bret Mackenzie the terrific trio did just that. You can hire three or six-seater bikes with friends and pretend to pedal while taking in the glorious Wellington waterfront.

Hannah’s Laneway – Wellington is known for its hidden laneways and Hannah’s is a local favourite. Stephen Colbert visited Goldings Free Dive, one of Wellington’s coolest craft beer bars where the locals and the crew sang the New Zealand national anthem with friendly locals. The laneway is also home to Fix and Fogg who make some of the best peanut butters around and don’t forget to grab some sweet stuff from Wellington Chocolate Factory and Leeds St Bakery.

Over The Top –New Zealand aviation legend Louisa ‘Choppy’ Patterson took The Late Show to the skies on a helicopter flight over the Southern Alps. Choppy’s company Over The Top Helicopters take visitors wherever they want to go, be it an aerial expedition to Milford Sound, a fly fishing experience in hard to access spots and even a bit of golf from the side of a mountain.

AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand – We didn’t think he’d do it, but he did. Colbert threw himself off New Zealand’s original bungy jump at the Kawarau Bridge 47m above the Kawarau River. AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand love to challenge visitors to test their limits and take the ultimate test. Their team makes you feel at ease, even when your toes are over the edge and you’re about to launch yourself into oblivion.
